Rioja Alavesa is located at the southern part of Alava, bordering to the north on the Cantabria Mountain Range (1200 m of altitude) and on the river Ebro (350 m) and the Autonomous Region of La Rioja to the south.
The microclimate, altitude and latitude of the region favour the development of a particular and excellent vineyard.
The tempranillo grape variety represents almost the 85 percent of the total surface of vineyards in Rioja Alavesa. The soil is clayey-calcareous (ochre-coloured) and very rough, which helps improving the quality of wines, and confers them a delicate bouquet and makes them to be very smooth on the palate.
The vineyards of Rioja Alavesa are located at an elevation between 400 and 700 meters of altitude, in slopes facing south. A south-facing vineyard is the guarantee of a superior quality of the grape, because ripening is earlier.
